Signing of Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Sharing Successful Digital Solutions Implemented at Population Scale for Digital Transformation

In an important milestone in India-Fiji relations, today the Government of India and the Government of Fiji signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing digital transformation through the exchange of successful, population-scale digital solutions. The MoU was signed by High Commissioner of India to Fiji, H.E. P.S. Karthigeyan on behalf of the Government of India and Fiji’s Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister for Trade, Co- operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica on behalf of the Fijian Government.
2. The partnership between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Government of India) and the Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, Fiji, represents a shared commitment to enhancing public sector services, private sector engagement, and overall digital readiness in both nations. Key areas of cooperation include capacity-building programs, training exchanges, knowledge-sharing workshops, and the development and scaling of proven digital solutions, such as the India Stack framework, that have been successfully implemented in India at scale.
3. A cornerstone of the collaboration will be the sharing of India Stack, India’s suite of digital solutions that has set a global benchmark for large-scale digital transformation. This comprehensive infrastructure includes Aadhaar, India’s biometric-based digital identity system, the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for seamless and secure digital transactions, and DigiLocker for the secure storage of documents. These technologies have revolutionized India’s digital landscape, driving financial inclusion, enabling efficient public service delivery, and fostering a cashless economy.
4. In his remarks, High Commissioner H. E. Mr. P. S. Karthigeyan spoke about the digital transformation happening in India and the immense opportunities to further strengthen India-Fiji cooperation in the digital space. Highlighting India's commitment to supporting Fiji in its digital journey by leveraging India’s experience with large-scale digital solutions, HC Karthigeyan emphasized the transformative potential of this partnership to improving the lives of Fijians.
5. DPM and Minister Manoa Kamikamica highlighted the significance of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Fiji and India, marking a pivotal step in Fiji's digital transformation. He stated that this partnership will allow Fiji to learn from India’s successes with large-scale digital innovations like the India Stack, which has advanced secure digital identities and inclusive e-services. The MoU emphasizes capacity-building through India’s ITEC program, enabling Fijian officials to receive specialized training in areas like digital governance and cybersecurity. Kamikamica expressed deep gratitude to Government of India, underscoring the potential for this collaboration to build a more connected and resilient Fiji.
6. This MoU signifies a promising step toward strengthening India-Fiji relations through technology and innovation, opening doors to new opportunities for both nations in the global digital landscape.
